Meet Miss Math

Welcome! Could your child benefit from some extra support in math?  I tailor each session to best help meet the student where they are at and build upon their knowledge.

My name is Sarah Hanson and I am Miss Math.  As a multiple subject credentialed teacher, I have taught middle school math for 4 years in San Francisco (6th, 7th and 8th grades).  I have a two young daughters and I have decided to take some time off from full-time classroom teaching to spend more time with them.  I absolutely love teaching math, and that's why I started Miss Math.   I am background checked and I sometimes substitute teach in Pacifica as well. I know what it takes for kids to be successful in math, and I tailor individual lesson plans for my students to insure they are getting what they need. I can help them be successful with the "new math" they are learning in school.

In 2010, 2011, and 2013 I attended the following Making Math Real courses at the University of California Berkeley:  4 Operations, 9 Lines,  Time & Money, Fractions/Decimals/Advanced Place-Value, Pre-Algebra & Games, and Algebra and I often infuse multi sensory instruction into my sessions. I utilize Making Math Real strategies in most of my math remediation sessions.  To learn more about these Making Math Real classes, including their focus and philosophy,  visit their site at http://www.makingmathreal.org/.
